Gum
disease is characterized by swollen, red gums, bleeding
gums, reducing gums, gum abscesses, teeth that begin to look longer
and eventually loose teeth. Affected teeth loosen to the point that
they become painful and useless and either fall out themselves, or
must be removed.
Gum disease is a common bacterial infection; it reduces gums ability to protect
vulnerable areas. Periodontal disease affects more than half the population
over 18 years of age. It has been found out that approximately after 35
three out of four adults develop some form of gum disease. The common symptom
of gum disease is bleeding and swelling that mostly leads to tissue break down.
The bacteria in gum disease can enter your bloodstream through damaged blood
vessels than run through the gums which can increase your risk of developing
several other health ailments like stroke, stomach ulcers, lung disease or
heart attack.
Common signs or signals of gum disease or periodontal disease are
gums that bleed when you brush or floss your teeth, tend to swell
get red or get tender, infection including purulence (pus) between
the teeth and gums when gums are pressed, get loose teeth or separating,
change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite, any change
in the fit of your denture,
bad breath and itchy
sensation.
It is important to take to your cosmetic
dentist and show him as soon as you face some problem
so that the disease can be traced and cured at its initial stage.
Some of the preventive measures to be taken in gum disease are to
maintain mouth hygiene, to regularly get check up at some interval. |
